According to SOLAS, every vessel must be equipped with a line-throwing apparatus (LTA) featuring four projectiles. Traditional line-throwing devices consist of a body containing the line, with a rocket thrown by the usage of gunpowder. In contrast, VIKING Life Saving Equipment A/S offers an innovative and cost-effective Pneumatic Line Thrower, which uses pressurized air to project the line.

With conventional LTAs, rockets must be replaced every three years, and the body every 15 years. The key advantage of Viking’s Pneumatic Line Thrower is that it only requires a simple hydraulic test every five years (conducted by any certified test facility) and can remain on board for the entire lifetime of the vessel.
