Propeler Boss Cap Fin (PBCF) by MOL the most installed Energy Saving Device towards CII & SCI improvement
We are pleased to introduce the globally recognized Mitsui PBCF Energy Saving Device, with over 3,600 installations worldwide. This best-selling solution delivers fuel savings and simultaneously increases vessel speed (VREF) under specific loads, providing measurable improvements in efficiency and emissions performance.
About the PBCF
The PBCF (co-developed by MOL, West Japan Fluid Engineering Laboratory Co., Ltd., and Nakashima Propeller Co., Ltd.) was the first commercial device to recover energy wasted by the vortex formed behind a rotating propeller. It breaks up this vortex, increasing thrust and achieving energy savings of 3%–4%, alongside improvements to Rightship SCI, CII and GHG metrics.
Key Benefits of the PBCF
Case Study: Combined Energy Saving Models
A combined model test conducted at Akishima Laboratories (Mitsui Zosen) Inc. for a Japanese-design Cape-size Bulk Carrier demonstrated the synergistic benefits of the PBCF and Schneekluth Ducts:
These findings emphasize the importance of selecting the right Energy Saving Device (ESD) to maximize performance and compliance with evolving industry regulations.
