MOL Propeller Boss Cap Fins (PBCF) certified as GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for Best-selling Energy-Saving Ship Appendage Brand
We are pleased to inform you that our Principals Messrs. MOL have been awarded as “Best-selling Energy-Saving Ship Appendage Brand (Cumulative)” for their Propeller Boss Cap Fins (PBCF) by Guinness World Records (Note 1) and received the official certificate on December 23, 2021. (https://www.mol.co.jp/en/pr/2021/21120.html)
The PBCF (co-developed by MOL, West Japan Fluid Engineering Laboratory Co., Ltd., and Nakashima Propeller Co., Ltd.) was the first commercialized device in the world for the recovery of the energy that is wasted due to the vortex formed behind a rotating propeller. Analysis has shown that a vessel equipped with a PBCF is breaking up this vortex which results to an increase in thrust and consequently to energy savings of 3% to 5%, with further improvement to EVDI – EEXI – CII.
The Guinness World Records title has been received following the installation of PBCF on board 3,600 vessels since 1987 and the recognized performance and benefits by shipowners and operators worldwide.
It is worth mentioning that by 2021 – following the significantly increased demand for Energy Saving Devices worldwide – the PBCF cumulative sales have exceeded the 3,800 units.
MOL Group continues to study hybrid combinations with other energy-saving devices, such as the Schneekluth Wake Equalizing Ducts, Stern fins, Rudder bulbs, confirming the synergistic effects in tests using a model with ultimate target to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Working towards improvement of vessels’ fuel efficiency and reduction of the environmental impact, MOL Group is proud of contributing to fuel-savings and GHG reduction of worldwide fleets.
